Travelers Insurance Review 2025: Solid Coverage, But Not Always the Cheapest

Travelers is one of those names almost everyone has heard of. They’ve been around since the 1800s and today they’re one of the biggest insurance providers in the U.S. If you’ve ever seen their red umbrella logo, you probably already know who I’m talking about. In 2025, Travelers continues to be strong on financial stability and coverage options, but from what I’ve seen in reviews and personal stories, the experience can be a mixed bag depending on where you live.

Company Snapshot & Ratings
  • Founded in 1864, based in New York City.
  • Offers auto, home, renters, umbrella, and business insurance.
  • Financially strong with AM Best rating of A++.
  • Mixed customer ratings — some praise fair claims, others call out higher-than-average prices.
Have you ever checked if your insurer has an A rating before signing up?

What People Like About Travelers
  • A lot of long-term customers say they trust Travelers because of the company’s history and stability.
  • Bundling options (auto + home) are decent, though not always the cheapest.
  • Claims handling, when it goes smoothly, gets very positive feedback. One customer mentioned their roof claim was settled faster than expected.
  • Their agent network is still strong — many people like dealing with a local agent face to face.
Common Complaints & Real Stories
  • Price is the number one complaint. Several people said their premiums went up after just one year, even without claims.
  • Customer service feels “hit or miss.” One reviewer said it took multiple calls to reach the right department.
  • Another homeowner mentioned their water damage claim took months and felt frustrating.

If your premium jumped suddenly, would you stay for stability or switch to save money?

Strengths & What Travelers Does Well
  • Longevity and financial security — they’ve been around long enough to be trusted.
  • A wide range of coverage options beyond just auto and home.
  • Good for people who like local agents.
  • Claims, when handled quickly, are often praised.
What to Watch Out For
  • Premiums tend to be higher than average.
  • Some policies have stricter underwriting rules, especially in coastal states.
  • Mixed reviews on customer support — depends a lot on your agent.
Would you pay a little more if it meant faster claims, or is price the most important factor for you?

Recent Updates in 2025
  • Travelers has been raising premiums in several states, especially where natural disasters are more common.
  • Their digital platform has been improved, making it easier to manage policies online.
  • Regulators in California and Florida are closely watching how Travelers (and other insurers) set rates.
Do you prefer dealing online through an app, or do you still like calling an agent directly?

Who Might Benefit Most from Travelers
  • Families who want stable, well-established coverage.
  • People who value financial strength over bargain pricing.
  • Homeowners in lower-risk areas who want reliable claims support.
  • Those who prefer agent-driven service over self-service apps.
Conclusion

Travelers is a dependable insurance company in 2025, but it’s not always the cheapest option out there. Their financial strength and long history make them a safe pick if you’re looking for stability, and their coverage options are broad. On the downside, you may find yourself paying more compared to competitors, and service can vary by agent and state.

I used Travelers for my house insurance. They covered my roof when a tree fell, which was indeed a lifesaver. Though, it took me a bit to process but I'm happy they came through.

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆ 4/5

Travelers were okay, but I don't think they were special. Premiums were higher than State Farm for me. I switched after a year because it didn’t make sense to pay more.
