The ability to start wealth management requires some financial literacy, strong communication and ability to build trust. The most common pathway to this industry is an undergraduate degree in finance, economics, or investments followed by certification. From there, a wealth manager will generally begin networking, pursuing some internships, and learning through real-life experience of managing small portfolios.

But beyond qualifications, the clients really look for someone who understands their personal goals. In starting your own wealth management career, would you prioritize formal education, certification, or practical work experience?

If I want to begin a career as a wealth manager, I should have a strong knowledge of finance and then acquire certifications like CFP (Certified Financial Planner) or CFA to convince my clients that I am capable.

I would emphasize much on gaining experience. Clients would like to know if you have the needed experience to manage there money. Starting in a small way by advising family and friends how to manage their wealth can teach you what textbooks may not. So, practical experience is needed.
