Is gold a commodity or future?

Gold is a commodity and it's also a futures asset. As a commodity, gold is a precious metal that is tangible and tradable. As a futures, gold can be bought and sold at an agreed price for a future date, either to serve as a hedge against an opening risk or because of price changes.
